In May 2025 our adored son, brother and friend, Michael, devastatingly lost a long battle with mental illness and took his own life.


In memory of Michael, 48 of his family, friends and colleagues will take to the streets of Edinburgh to take part in the Edinburgh Marathon Team Relay. Each team of four runners will split the full 26.2 mile marathon distance on Sunday 24th May 2026.


Anyone who knew Michael will know that he was a fierce advocate of social justice and was passionately invested in creating positive change in Scotland. In a time where Scotland’s mental health is as bad as it has ever been SAMH are dedicated to “Taking Action. Creating Change”. With a driving focus on people and communities they are expanding their reach to support more people with mental health illness than ever before. They are also demanding that the mental health system in Scotland is changed as it is no longer meeting the needs of the people it was set up to help.
